The town of Wadena welcomed Sergeant Burton Jones last week when he assumed duties as the commanding officer for the Foam Lake/ Wadena RCMP detachment.
Fresh from a promotion to sergeant, Jones said he always wanted to be posted in Wadena.
Although originally from Weyburn, Jones is very familiar with the area and still has family here.
“My parents are from Wishart and Leslie,” said Jones, “and I used to spend summers at Leslie Beach.”
Jones comes from the Canora/Sturgis detachment but also spent time in Humboldt and other areas, including LaLoche, as part of his 11 years with the force.
“I know the area well,” he said, “and I know a lot of the people. Especially now, having been in the three detachments that border each other.
“I have always tried coming here no matter what capacity I was in,” said Jones when he sat down with the News. “I am excited to start work.”
Although currently commuting from his home in Preeceville, Jones likes the area as it allows him to do all the outdoors activities that he loves: snowmobiling, “fishing, fishing and fishing,” hunting and quadding, laughed Jones during the interview.
Sgt. Jones takes over from Sgt. Kurt Kamotzki, who transferred to Ottawa in June.
Welcome to Wadena, Sgt. Jones!
