The Little Whalers Daycare, a much-needed service in Wadena, has submitted to the government an application for a licensed, subsidized daycare. If approved, the daycare centre would be an add-on to the Wadena Elementary School, whose logo is a whale, hence “Little Whalers” for the daycare.
The more funds raised now, the more likely the project will be able to start immediately when the permissions come through. One of the first fundraisers was a spaghetti supper held on May 30 at the hall in Wadena. The excellent attendance suggests that this daycare project is high on the list of priorities for the town and parents alike.
As more young families choose to live in Wadena, the need for such a service increases. The daycare was high on the list of “wants” in the responses to the Wadena Community Revitalization Committee’s survey of the town’s residents.
More information will be released by the committee —Elizabeth Grant, Sara Sobchyshyn, Kelly Tokarchuk and Carrie Turnbull — when it becomes available.
