Five thousand employees from SaskEnergy, SaskPower, SaskTel, SaskWater, the Water Security Agency, and two SaskTel subsidiaries are on strike today in one of the most significant public sector strikes in years. The strike follows a ‘work to rule’ campaign after the union and province failed to reach an agreement.
Workers around the province formed picket lines as early as 7 a.m. with Wadena seeing a picket line form outside the SaskTel building on Main Street this morning.
“It is a frustrating situation, we just want to get back to work to serve our community,” said Jason Collins Unifor rep for the Wadena area.
Workers from the crown corporations are represented by Unifor, which has been in contract negotiations with the provincial government for months.
