Pleasant View Care Home and Wadena Home Care honoured their volunteers at the annual Volunteer Tea held April 17. The theme, as activity coordinator Jeannie Elphinstone explained, was the Year of the Horse.
“We are celebrating our good fortune in having such a wonderful group of family and volunteers,” she said.
The Volunteer Tea recognizes individuals and groups who donate their time. In the past year this has included family members and local groups such as music groups, the Kuroki ladies’ choir and the men’s choir, church groups that perform services on Wednesdays, the Tuesday bingo-callers, drivers and helpers who keep the van going, Meals on Wheels, the palliative care team, and high school students gaining work experience.
In keeping with the theme, the tea included fortune cookies for everyone. Door prizes were donated by local businesses and were creatively decorated with drawings and good wishes. Pleasant View resident Mina Graham thanked the volunteers on behalf of the residents.
