The presentation of the Ralph Rumpel Award began the hockey awards portion of the evening during the Wadena Minor Sports awards night on March 30.
Jody Christianson introduced the award and this year’s winner.
“The Ralph Rumpel Award is for the person or persons who dedicated their time to coaching or helping on the ice year after year,” he told the audience.
This year’s recipient, said Christianson, got involved in the mid-1980s by driving his children to the rink, acting as a head coach or assistant coach, or just helping out at practices during the entire 15 years he had children skating.
“The award goes to Wayne Anderson for his years of commitment to the kids of Wadena Minor Sports,” he announced.
Anderson made a short speech after accepting the award, adding, “This is an acknowledgment of all the moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, anybody who gets kids involved in bringing youth to sports.”
